What was the name of that play that Lincoln went to on Good Friday when he should have been at church services, "Our American Cousin" was it?
Well, right now, for the next several years we get to live out "Our American Nightmare." How foolish could we be, putting Democrats in charge of EVERYthing in our nation's capital? But it is what it is.
Without sounding like the most negative person there ever was, I have to say, I've got a bone to pick with America. I love my country. It's still the land of the free and the home of the brave, still the haven that people all over the world would like to come to to live in peace and freedom, and seek prosperity, and yes, happiness, but we've got some serious problems right now.
Our citizens are seriously uninformed about many, many things: government, the virtues of capitalism, the nature of taxation and the way it hinders true freedom, how seriously lacking our public education is . . . . We have a population enthralled with entertainment and media nonsense!
Don't get me wrong. I like entertainment; it has its place, but we can't be consumed by it. Religion is not the opiate of the masses, but TV is! And the American media that we consume is seriously misleading.
What is the fairest way to get a reading on an event? One could be there on the ground. One could also read as much as one can from various sources on an event, and then form an opinion.
So often we look to media to give us the authoritative account. Friends, don't put so much trust in the media. Be skeptical, be very skeptical. Don't think your friends in the media are there because they have a better education than you. We must not let the media shape opinion for us. But many do.
What about getting to know your politicians? Yeah, all politicians have their pros and cons, but if you want to know about politicians, don't bother listening to the media! Look at what the party they come from has done over the long term, what movements are shaping a particular party presently, and for goodness sake, don't believe everything a politician says. Look at the politician's long term track record. Does it match up with the words? And if that track record is sparse, look at character.
So, are you a citizen who would like to see real, serious, POSITIVE "change"? Well, don't depend on your government to do it! Get off your rump, quit watching so much TV, and whatever YOU do in life, make a real difference!
If you desire real "hope" and "change", not just mindless mantras that promise it, make it happen. Don't wait for government to make your life better. -Cal Samuel August
