I listened to a fellow on the Bill Bennett show complain that if Newt was the nominee for the Republicans, he would not vote. As I hear Obama day after day, and know what this cat is about, I think it's pretty foolish to say that you'll let Obama have a second rip at messing up the country. On Romney: People don't know who the real Mitt Romney is, but he's got to be better than Barack Obama.

On Santorum: Conservative on life issues, would lead internationally. What would he do for economics? Hopefully he'd "Drill, baby, drill."

On Gingrich: He's not done yet. Real Clear Politics indicates that he's still leading nationally.

On Ron Paul: He still has a great deal of support. Economically he'd do better than Barack Obama. What would he do with foreign policy? It sounds scary.

On Michele Bachmann: She would have done a lot of things right. Unfortunately, she is finished after Iowa. She joins Cain who has been gone a long time now.

On John Huntsman: Who?

In various ways, any of them would be imperfect candidates but FAR BETTER than Barack Obama.

Do you hate those evil capitalists? Do you want more socialism? Wanting to prevent reductions in government spending? Wanting to soak the filthy rich pigs who make more than you? When you vote against reforming public spending, when you vote against tax reform in any form you are voting against yourself. Do you think it's just fine and dandy that public employees rake in outrageous salaries? Do you not care what your community is spending? It affects you. When you fail to vote in local elections, when you vote for candidates that are going to produce more spending, and against reform, it affects YOU.

You will be on the hook for more taxes. The "filthy rich", they will probably be fine, but you Mr. Populist, Mr. Middle Class will be on the hook for those unfunded government employee pensions. Your state and local taxes will go up. Your property taxes will go up. The costs of buying goods in your community will go up. It will be more expensive to live. You see, you may call lower taxes for everyone "trickle-down" economics, which sounds so terrible doesn't it, but what you may not realize is that higher taxation on the rich results in higher taxes for EVERYONE.

The problem is NOT that we NEED MORE REVENUE-which in government-speak always means they're going to TAKE, that is, CONFISCATE more of your money in taxes-the problem is that they're spending too ****-much money. When government DEMAGOGUES pit "poor" and "middle" and "rich" people against one another, they are stacking the deck against WE the PEOPLE. When they succeed in getting your vote they are busy high-fiving each other over how they HOODWINKED you. IT IS GOVERNMENT THAT IS THE PROBLEM. WE'VE GOT TOO MUCH OF IT! It is time that WE the PEOPLE get a CLUE and tell them to STOP the **** GOVERNMENT SPENDING! There are not enough TAXES (revenues) in the world to pay for their STUPID ideas and their STUPID government programs, and there are a LOT of STUPID government programs.

What we need is for GOVERNMENT TO CUT SPENDING EVERYWHERE. They are WASTING what they get. They need to live within their means as a government. WE NEED many LESS GOVERNMENT employees, and more PRIVATE SECTOR employees. It also means no more "FREEBIES" for everyone. "FREEBIES" from the government are not freebies. You will pay for them in one form or another. More government spending always leads to TRICKLE DOWN TAXES. Taxes that hit everyone.

The Obama administration is sinking in its own incompetence, fecklessness, and hypocrisy. By the time 2012 elections come around, all the media fulminations of Republican wrongdoings perceived or real will pale in comparison to what the Obama administration has become-a caricature of itself, denouncing all such wrongdoings while expecting the public to ignore its own. In 2012 Obama will be the boy that cried, "wolf" and no one will particularly care. They will vote against him because ANYTHING a tad more responsible is better than this. Bush was bad? Some are suggesting that it would be better to let cuts happen across the board than reaching an agreement in the "Supercommittee" at any cost. I think I agree on this one. Defense cuts, as bad as they sound will happen for one year as far as I understand. Take them now and go for big changes in spending/tax policy when the Obama administration is sunk in 2012 by the voters/the Senate goes Republican.

Ohio, Unions, Jobs, and Wages . . . .

Ohio is facing major budget shortfalls. In a referendum vote, union workers defeated John Kasich's attempt to close those shortfalls by changing laws surrounding unions.

The way I understand it, the law that was defeated by referendum prevented mandatory collection of union dues, made it necessary for workers to contribute to their own healthcare costs at a rate of 15%. This may be considered a "victory" for the union, but it may not be a victory for the worker.

Here's the question: if faced between having a job tomorrow and decreased wages, or no job at all, which would you choose? As a result of their inflexibility, unions which have priced workers out of the market will see their workers simply laid off. So, which would you rather have? High paying jobs for a few, or jobs for a greater number of workers? The leftists in our country are going to have to make some decisions very soon. There will be no money left to pay the workers their high-falutin' salaries and benefits that few in the private sector enjoy. The left can cry all it wants, but the goose that lays the golden eggs is just about dead. Thanks to the unions.

YOUR DEMOCRAT POLITICIANS: BANKRUPT IDEAS, BANKRUPT RHETORIC, BANKRUPT THE NATION

As we get closer and closer to the 2012 presidential election, you're going to hear a lot of scaremongering. You're going to hear people talking about cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, telling you how bad it is. You will hear how Republicans want to destroy our nation.

Truth is, we're on a collision course. Our nation is essentially bankrupt. We cannot sustain our standard of living, or the coming entitlement collapse. This house of cards will collapse if Congress keeps trying to BUY your vote with its empty promises.

These people-Democrat and Republican-have a responsibility to cut. I didn't put Republican in the title, because it is the Democrats who are the most utterly irresponsible when it comes to these issues. But they're (THE POLITICIANS) all making a mess of things.

I received a survey from my Republican Representative, and I left these comments at the bottom of the form, for what it's worth (I've omitted his name):

""NAME HERE" by not cutting spending, congress is accelerating the speed of America's demise. We don't want to hear excuses. Cut spending, whatever it takes. Congress does not deserve permission to spend more of the taxpayers' money. Buying our votes with "free" handouts cannot last forever. Congress needs to have some guts. Stand up to those who won't cut spending. We can't afford to wait any longer."

I don't know if he'll get it, but it is my two cents. When you have a chance, go up to YOUR congressman, whoever he or she is, and tell them this. Write hand-written letters. Make phone calls. Talk to their aids relentlessly. Be a real pain in the you-know-what. Use these words or something like them. And if they don't do it, work and campaign to vote them out. All citizens must bring about change. The money is not THEIRS. It's YOURS, and they're spending it.

Think the rich will suffer? Heck no! They will A) move to another country B) pass their expenses on to you when the taxes are raised. You will pay in lost jobs and wages. Not the rich (the so-called 1%). Get it? So quit punishing yourself, and be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Make congress spend less. Period. THEY are the real problem. And if they don't, take their job and give it to someone else, by VOTING. Do it at town, state, and national levels. You can't expect real results if you allow your city, county, state, and national officials to keep their jobs for 40 years without serious expectations that they actually do something about the problems and cut spending. We can't afford to wait.

The Mistaken Premises on Student Loans

Obama, by executive fiat is getting ready to see to it that student loans will be lowered from 15% to 10% of discretionary income. He is also going to limit payments to 20 years instead of 25. OK, interesting measures. Obama is pandering to the Occupy Wall Street degenerates and the liberal "do-gooders" who agree with them.

Here are some thoughts about this. On the surface, here are the problems I see. First of all, lowering the rate to 10% of discretionary income would actually cause students who are paying for their loans to stretch the loans out a longer time, and the loan companies would end up receiving more interest from them. In other words, stretching out the loans could cost students MORE in the long run. It's like a 30 year mortgage vs. a 10 year mortgage. Usually you get an interest advantage on the 10 versus the 30, but let's say that you kept the interest rates the same. This means that the minimum payments would be smaller on the thirty year mortgage, and that means the amount of interest paid over the years will be many times greater than for the ten year. Students will pay less of their incomes, stretching out the loans, but overall, paying a lot more interest.

But you say, "Aha!" "In twenty years that won't be a problem, it will be 'forgiven.'" First of all, this neglects the fact that there will be many students who will actually pay off their loans before the 20 years are up. This also punishes those who actually paid their loans, and it punishes the taxpayer. That's right. Why should the deadbeats who made bad decisions not have to pay THEIR "fair" share? Would you forgive a loan on a big screen TV after a few months because the person couldn't make the payments? You'd repossess the TV. But you can't repossess an "education." It's not my fault you decided to study theater and couldn't get a high-paying job in engineering or medicine to pay for your $80,000 "education." You should have thought about that when you chose that, and your academic counselor shouldn't have been so IRRESPONSIBLE when she told you to "reach for the stars!" But who really ends up paying for this mess? Anyone paying taxes. So, if these students get into a bracket where they'll actually pay taxes, they'll be footing the bill anyway. The government and the loan institutions always get their money somehow.

"Oh," you say, "but that means the evil RICH will pay for this." No, YOU will. The "evil" RICH will send their money where it will get the greatest advantage. They will move overseas, send jobs overseas, they will pass extra costs on to you in the products that they produce, and you will eventually pay for it in those jobs lost, higher costs, and LOST wages.

"Oh" you say, "we'll just have the government 'do-gooders' control prices on products then." You will pay for this too. This time not in the cost of prices, but you will pay with the scarcity of products. There will be long lines for things that otherwise would be much easier to obtain. Why do you think stores run out of desired items much more quickly when they have sales? The shelves will be empty, and you will be left hanging.

This is how economics truly works. Supply and demand. Liberals say they want everything to be "fairer" and "kinder" but what they really want is more power over YOU. There are too many dupes and suckers who buy into this. The liberals in power are busybodies who want to control your lives, control the way you think and speak and live. They say that they're doing it in your best interest. It's garbage. It's all to enhance THEIR power. To keep them in office. And their policies are not fairer or kinder, they just keep you under their thumb.

When they "soak the RICH" (and I am by no means a rich person), it means not only that there will be fewer rich people, but there will also be many poorer people. You, the MASSES, will be out of jobs, and you will work harder for LESS money when you do work. Do you get it?

I do not care if Joe Billionaire pays his "fair" share of taxes. I want him to invest in the economy and make a good profit, so that I, Joe Worker can have a BETTER STANDARD OF LIVING. Some, but LIMITED regulation is a good thing. Antitrust regulations allow us to have more variety of products and a healthy competition which is a boon to the consumer and the worker.

Going back to student loans, the mistaken premise here is that students need help paying off loans, and that the government needs to stick its filthy hands in and help them. Does anyone ever think that the real problem lies in different areas:

1. Institution costs are far too high.

Going to Harvard was not the key to the success of the most successful people. A lazy idiot who went to Harvard is still a lazy idiot. You might say that an idiot could not get into Harvard. My two answers to this are a) You'd be surprised. and b) I'm sorry, maybe not idiot, but someone who was convinced to make a poor decision on schooling. Which leads me to #2 here, which is . . .

2. Institutions are allowing students to rack up enormous costs for useless "skills" that are not in high demand.

Please, how much psychology, theater, gender studies, insert useless degree area here: _______ do we need? To which you reply, "Well, I can always become a professor." To which my reply is, if you have subpar grades and are not the gender or ethnic group du jour, good luck with that.

Which leads me to #3 . . .

3. INSTITUTIONS need to quit worrying about DIVERSITY for crying out loud and start teaching ALL people who come to them USEFUL, MARKETABLE skills for surviving in a DIFFICULT economy.
And finally, #4 . . .

4. Government makes the problems worse by trying to correct the "problems." Let the MARKETS CORRECT THEMSELVES! Bubbles need to be popped, not sustained!

Last words: if you have been saddled with overwhelming debt from your student loans I would have to suggest that it is probably your own fault. When I went to college I took out student loans. I went to an institution where I would finish with a reasonable cost. I actually paid attention to how much debt I was incurring. When I wanted to do special things, such as study abroad, or extracurricular trips, I found ways to pay for these things (sometimes with help from my parents) in reasonable ways. And my parents kept track of what I owed them! Though I can never fully repay them for everything they did, I paid them back for some of these things. I don't recommend taking out loans if you can avoid them. Get a job, be creative, and PAY your way through college if you are determined to go, OR consider an alternate route such as military or vocational opportunities. Start a business!

Fortunately I went to college in my hometown and lived at home. Do some people not have that option? In many cases I understand that may not be possible, but there are so many options for college these days. Students can get USEFUL degrees inexpensively, and sometimes online. You don't need a Harvard degree to get a job if you have developed skills that are in high demand both in and out of COLLEGE situations and are industrious, resourceful, and very willing to work. For those young people who do military service, there are tremendous options for you. Do lots of science, math, language, and learn your history or how to write without making English or History your full course of study, unless you are absolutely CERTAIN that they are the bridge to a career, such as law or ministry.

Finally, it's time to put the feet of institutions to the fire. They are offering useless degrees and course areas on the student's dime. Time and resources are precious. Companies can't afford to hire lazy workers without skills. Students must VOTE with THEIR FEET. Force these institutions to truly compete. A BRAND NAME does NOT a good institution make. Institutions need to take a good look at themselves and weed out a lot of waste. There may come a time when the government gravy train ends for institutions and they will really have to. It is time for serious institutional reform. Students should consider alternate ways of getting schooling and alternate paths of career advancement. Students should also consider alternate institutions if it means keeping costs down. You can go to your local institution and receive a good education. And don't forget disciplined self-study can really pay off. My two cents on the student loan mess.

I don't know who is going to win the Republican nomination. But whoever does, I will vote for them over Obama. It is pretty clear that whoever goes against Obama will be smeared, no matter who they are.

Not only will Obama do this, but you can pretty well expect that the media will ask questions designed to make anyone who opposes Obama look bad. Don't accept the premises. Don't fall for it. Just vote for the candidate that opposes Obama, for a better country, a better economy, and hopefully a way out of the mess that Obama is perpetuating.

The problem with politics is that the common-sense driven people who really would be good as leaders of our institutions, our local, state, and national governments, want nothing to do with government. They want to mind their own business. In the meantime, those who love to control people, the busybodies that want nothing more than to regulate and bring about fairness, and make the world a "utopia" of their own making lodge themselves like ticks in government institutions. Case in point, the EPA and the Gibson fiasco. This is one case where a company that is creating a fantastic American-made product is being raided, hounded, invaded, and violated by our government. The EPA was meant to protect US citizens from truly hazardous situations like the dumping of hazardous materials into our environment, and protecting nature. What is really happening is they are becoming a terror to all innovation in the United States. And apparently, the Obama administration is trying to hire another 200,000 of these people to invade our lives and make life miserable for everyone. Government really does need to become smaller. Our jobs our leaving, our economy is dying, our country is languishing under the heavy hand of our government.

Rating the Republican Debaters of September 7, 2011 at the Reagan Library

Having watched the debate last night, I am not really rating the debate, but the debaters.

Watching how each of the debaters did, here is my estimation of how each of the debaters came out, according to how they answered the questions onstage at the Reagan Library.

First, here is the criteria that I would go by: Were they rattled by the questions, or did they answer them in a decisive and confident way? Were the answers they gave intelligent, logical, and satisfying, providing real solutions to our nations problems? Did they go after the weak record of Barack Obama, and then explain how they would do things differently? Did they appear presidential and professional, the kind of candidate that would convince voters that they would be a good EXECUTIVE to lead our nation?

1. Romney
2. Bachmann/Gingrich
4. Perry
5. Cain
6. Santorum
7. Paul
8. Huntsman

Romney answered the questions well, and appeared the most like a presidential and professional kind of candidate. He was fair to the other candidates, and went after the record of Barack Obama in a convincing way, telling me that he could beat our sitting president in a head-to-head election. He seemed like a natural up there.

Bachmann had strong answers to her questions, and showed her experience as a member of congress.
Where Gingrich has some baggage that will be difficult to overcome, Gingrich came across to me as the smartest person on the stage. He knows how to answer questions in a convincing way; he always seems to know what he's talking about. Gingrich always seems like a natural onstage.

Rick Perry was also came across as very genuine in this debate. To me, it wasn't his best performance, but he had more opportunities to talk it seemed than some of the other candidates. He also appeared to be nervous, and there were times it seemed that he struggled for words.

Cain came across as genuine and relaxed, a likeable fellow with creative solutions for our nation's problems.
I don't doubt that the fellow knows how to be an executive, nor would I worry about the others above.

Santorum has a great deal of experience, and I think that he needs a lot more time to talk. He has excellent things to say, but doesn't get the chance to say them in these forums.

Ron Paul had some good answers to some questions, and in other instances a person kind of cringes when he talks. He appears kind of fragile these days.

Huntsman, what can I say? I struggle with trusting the fellow to come out strongly enough against the liberal agenda, and he just doesn't seem presidential to me. I don't agree with a lot of what he says.

I would say that if one of these candidates becomes President, they SHOULD draw from many of the debaters onstage for cabinet positions. I think there were many excellent things that these debaters bring to the table. Even Paul and Huntsman have some good ideas, even though I agree with, and see the other candidates as the better options. Looking forward to further debates.

Addendum: Listened to Rush Limbaugh this afternoon, and Rush pointed out the debate was intended to make the candidates look bad, especially one particular target, Rick Perry. Whereas I place Perry as fourth on this list, does not mean that I choose the other three above Perry. I, in fact, am not ready to make a choice among these Republicans yet. It's still too early.

Perry made some good points about social security, and about the death penalty in Texas. The media would like us to think that the death penalty is a horrible injustice, but the reality is, when people commit the most heinous of crimes, the death penalty is necessary to maintain civilization and deter terrible atrocities. I believe that if people knew the death penalty was coming for heinous crimes, it could keep them from committing them.

The media would also like to make candidates look bad through the lines of questioning they choose. I think the candidates passed with flying colors. They also "pushed back" when necessary. We know where the media stands. I think the candidates were genuine, and have come out looking good after this debate.

History and 5 Presidents

Barack Obama will inevitably be compared with Presidents before him. He will always be a historic president for the reason that "skin color" did not keep him out of office, and why should it in this day and age? Logically speaking, there's no reason skin color or gender should keep any person out of office. However, that "skin color" issue is considered a "hump" that Obama overcame. That way was paved by many great people before him who made it possible, and the public, who no longer saw it as an issue. In all honesty, it was not he who overcame it, but the reality is that a great majority of the public no longer considers skin color an issue.

As a result of this being a "transformational" presidency based on the grand flourishes of "hope" and "change" we've seen Obama, a DEMOCRAT, compared to two very important REPUBLICAN Presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. I suspect that this was mostly to sell him to the moderates and potentially to squishy Republicans by a media who wanted him to be seen by the public as being like those two very great presidents.

Taking the actual presidency on its face, however, we've already seen him squander the goodwill of the nation. This is because he personally approved the enormous government spending sprees in misplaced stimulus and unwanted government socialized health-care, and the over-regulation that has turned a bad economy into a worse one. The House of Representatives are going to put out a "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan, and will be voting on it soon. I think there is a good chance the House Republicans will pass it, then pass it on to the President and the Senate. With the "hot potato" passed on, it will be the onus of the President and Senate to pass this, as they have not set forward a plan of their own, and are unwilling to do meaningful negotiating over the issue.

My suggestion to the House, for what it's worth: put the entire "cut, cap, and balance" bill out there so that everyone can read it. Then the Dems can't say, "Where's their plan?" or complain that the Republicans are hypocritical by doing the same "We have to pass the bill so that we can learn what's in it" Nancy Pelosi approach. Well, they can, but it won't be true. Once that has been done, I think people will see through the Democrats, even with the media bias. They will own it all.

Spoiled Children are Running the American Government

Imagine that there was a household in which the children were out of control. We've seen it on television "nanny" shows, so it's not so far-fetched.

In this household, the children were never accustomed to being told "No." And when the adults in the house actually made decisions for themselves, one parent tuned out, and the other parent always gave in. The children were allowed to watch television into all hours of the night. Every time they went into a store where there was the latest toy, they begged and begged and begged until a parent gave in. Every time they went into a store this happened. Every weekend the family went out to eat, and often weekdays. They put everything on the credit cards. When one of the children turned 15, he wanted the parents to go out and get him his new truck, which, when he obtained his license at 16, he promptly went out and wrecked the truck.

One day, the father's bills overtook his ability to pay. The bills kept coming even though there was not enough money coming in. The parents panicked and, cut up the credit cards. How do you think the kids reacted when they were cut off? They took it out on the parents. They berated them, chastised them, fought with them, told them that their friends would hate them. If the parents had started saying NO a long time ago and sticking to their guns, something could have been done.

We have spoiled children in the presidency of the United States, and the Senate. They are in consultations with the parents who have always had trouble saying NO. There is no option, they are going to have to cut, and cut massively. They are going to have to turn off the cable, quit going out to eat, quit going to movies, downgrade to more affordable cars, cut out the excess toys, quit giving allowances and make the children get jobs of their own if they want spending money. The family will have to stop going on expensive vacations for a few years, and they will have to make the kids pay for their own college on top of it. Their friends are going to cry foul, and scream, and gripe at them, because they have no one to drive them around anymore or pay for their movies.

The credit company always ends up getting their money. Many American people have lost their jobs; some are unwilling to cut up the credit cards. Others are ready to "get a divorce, sell everything, write off the spoiled brats." They've had it.

The spoiled brats are - those who refuse to see that our country needs to cut spending drastically, the President, the Democratic Party (who can't stop giving out favors or they won't get elected anymore).

The father is the Republican Party who have never had the guts to say NO, until the situation became drastic.
The mother who wants a divorce are all the people who are fed up with all of it, and are ready to move to states where the governors are acting responsibly, and ready to vote all of the irresponsible people that they can out of office.

The "friends" are all of the supporters of the Democrat party who can't let go of the gravy train of goodies and freebies and irresponsible spending, as well as all the foreign governments that are collecting freebies from us.
It's a drastic situation right now. Pray for our nation. Vote OUT all the brats. Get with the program. America needs you to tune in to the situation and quit being apathetic about what happens in government. Don't CAVE in John Boehner. You are holding all the cards. The voters will be watching all of you politicians intently. We're tired of paying for your irresponsible spending sprees.

Some politicians sincerely want to serve the people, others seem to be in it to protect their personal interests. When something important is at stake, will your politician do what's right? Will your representative at the local, state, or national level seek to serve the interests of his or her constituents? Does your voice matter, or is it insignificant?

There is a new organization that is meant to give small business owners, everyone who wants a voice a chance to be heard. When it comes to business and helping us all get back on track economically, the President is not listening. The people in his administration are not listening. Oh, they hear you. That is why they send out the rhetoric that they do, made to sound a lot like they are doing the right things that are best for the country, and YOU are impeding them. They're off the rails. They're not listening.

As more of these people get voted out of office (and many career politicians need to be), your voice will be heard. Gather your friends and neighbors together. Go out in your community and post signs for the person you want to replace your representative who is NOT representing you. I did, everywhere I could. Go to rallies and community events. Make some noise, ask important questions, ask embarrassing questions. Don't be afraid. We must make our elected representatives accountable for their behaviors and their voting practices that are supposed to be on our behalf. If they're not listening, make your voice heard.

When my wife wrote letters to our representative and we received back letters that indicated they were going to do what they pleased, disregarding how we felt, we decided that it was time to go out and help the other fellow get elected. We didn't care about politics as much before, but we were motivated, because they weren't REALLY REPRESENTING us. That fellow doesn't represent us anymore. He lost that job. I like to think that I played a small part in helping that happen in my own community. We talk to our representative when we go to events. We expect him to listen. Expect more of your elected representatives. Go out and help campaigns.

We are not a a DEMOCRACY. Democracy is chaos. We are a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC. This system depends on YOU knowing what is going on in your locality and state, and in the nation, and voting for people who will do the right things. If you are a good man or woman it may even depend on YOU going out and running for office. Please, get involved! We can make this entire nation BETTER; it is a great nation. It just needs more of our help right now.

Obama seems to think that it's FAIRER to tax the rich more. However, taxing the rich TOO MUCH "kills the golden goose." There comes a point where too much taxation actually results in LESS revenue for the government.

Understand this: there is a difference between more revenue and more taxation. I think it is somewhat similar to my alma mater's ticket price on college football. Right now, my team stinks. If you want to fill the stadium with fans, lower the price, and in the long run you will actually get more REVENUE for the team. In effect, the ticket price is kind of like a tax.

You can price yourself out of sales, and that is in effect what too high a tax rate does. People fear and hold on to their cash because they do not know what the future brings. In the meantime, it becomes a death spiral for the economy. As long as we have people "in power" who think that it is better to raise taxes on the rich because it's "FAIRER," we'll all suffer.

"RICH" people produce jobs, they invest in building business. This stimulates the economy much more than taking their money and giving it to people who help politicians get elected. In turn, those whose businesses are stimulated by the spending of "RICH" people will turn around and buy more things themselves. They'll go out to eat more, they'll spend more on tips, they'll buy that TV for their home that they've been putting off buying until things get better.

Do you want a better economy and a brighter future? Make sure this wrong-headed president doesn't get re-elected. He doesn't seem to understand what actually makes the economy better. Either that, or he thinks that we're all getting what's coming to us. Here's the reality. The American people help people all over the world, because they care. Liberals seem to think that America is an evil empire that deserves what's coming to it. That seems to be why Obama takes the tack that he does in all his policies. The reality is that the days of "imperialism"-that is, one nation conquering another to gain land-are over. (And besides-America's biggest land gains were purchases such as the Louisiana purchase, and that of Alaska.) America's empire is an economic one. It used to be a spiritual one too. When we get our heads screwed on straight spiritually, we'll probably get our economics in order too.

If you understand the Laffer Curve, you'll understand the tie between a decent TAXATION RATE and MORE REVENUE. Then test it YOU LIBERALS OUT THERE and see for yourself.

When it comes to "assassinating" rogue dictators, tyrannical rulers, thugs, terrorists, and the like, it is far easier to kill than capture and try them. When it comes to dealing with liberal "anguish" over the messiness of dealing with rogues, it seems much more convenient to take them out, than to bring them back and put them on trial before a tribunal or a civil court. We are thankful that OBL (the nefarious Osama) has been eliminated as an enemy, but had he been captured, we can almost be assured that it would have been a hairy, hand-wringing business trying to deal with the legal issues surrounding this fellow. When liberals capture rogues black and white issues turn into multitudinous shades of gray. A person could sit in jail for years, and there is the possibility that some technicality could make it impossible to get justice. It was far less messy politically to take OBL out. Would I be insinuating a Machiavellian convenience, pragmatism, and practicality is behind killing, rather than capturing such types? Sure we lose out on intel that we could get from the very lips of such an enemy, but many questions seem to be eliminated in the aftermath. It's done. It can't be reversed. And, now it gets hairier-what if they had raided the compound and killed the wrong guy? What then? I suppose we could throw out a thousand hypotheticals. Is clarification in order?

Republicans in Congress want to cut billions from the American budget this year. I hope that what they cut from the budget is enough.

Have you ever tried to run a race while being eighty pounds or more overweight? Not very comfortable if you've tried that. Not very efficient either.

Having run cross country years ago, I am now forty pounds heavier than I was then. Granted, I am much older now, and some would say I was underweight back then. The difference though, is that I was a lot faster, and a lot more efficient in my running.

The government is bloated, overweight, inefficient. As Bill Bennett was speaking of this morning, people need to make clear the difference between what we "need" and "what we want." Liberals want a lot of things. What we need is fiscal responsibility and sanity in regard to the budget.

Congress has done really poorly of late. I wonder if any of the people in congress would be willing to do what some CEOs have done in private companies. Take a $1 salary for the year until government is running much smoother. I bet some of our congress people could afford to do that. I wouldn't hold or expect everyone to do that, but there are many, many cuts that can be made to make government run much more smoothly. Everyone is tightening the belt right now, how about government? How about Obama?

Washington. Politics has gotten in the way of doing the things we need to do to eliminate the economic crisis of the bloated federal budget and the out of control spending of Washington.

Imagine if I had bought millions of dollars worth of beer hats. That's right beer hats. Even though some people have had fun-I guess-with a novelty like this in the past, does anyone really actually need a beer hat? If a person wishes to drink beer, all they have to do is pour the beer in a glass-or leave it in a can-and lift the beer to their mouth with their hand. No one actually needs a hat to dispense beer. Now imagine if the government was buying up all the beer hats, and beer hat companies and the people who use the completely redundant beer hats (redundant as in unnecessary, because people can drink with their hands) complained and caterwauled because the government was no longer buying their beer hats. What if the government in the meantime had a budgetary crisis and complained that they couldn't cut on beer hats because people would complain, and in the meantime there were people who were using them? Its all completely ludicrous isn't it?

However, there really are government programs full of redundancies that no one is willing to cut for fear that people will complain and will be out on particular services. The answer is that something else will take the places of those redundant programs. Either the free-market will fill in the missing "beer-hat" niche or no one will bother buying the proverbial "beer hats" because they find them to be redundant and unnecessary anyway.

We need more straight talking politicians who will get tough with special interests and themselves and take a good hard look at the programs that they're paying for. It's time for all of us to tighten our belts, not just the American people, but the government and the special interests as well.

Reaching the Debt Ceiling

Here's how it was explained on Bill Bennett's show, as I understand it: there will be a debate on whether to raise the debt ceiling. There is a difference between continuing to spend and raising the debt ceiling. The government always has to borrow money to pay its current debts. In the last Congress, the Democrats spent far, far beyond our means as a nation, so that spending greatly outpaced GDP.

If we don't raise the debt ceiling, we will actually default on our current obligations to paying our citizens and other nations who hold our debt. If we don't pay our debts, our word, our promises are worthless. Interest rates on our debt will greatly rise, and our debt will no longer be the gold standard for investing among other nations. There will be other consequences as well: some banks may go bankrupt, etc.

We should not keep accruing debt at the pace of the last Congress, but we should raise the debt ceiling. It's not spending more money. It's keeping us from defaulting on current obligations.

The Republicans are going to try to make large budget cuts. Here's the deal. It has to be done. Here is what we have to worry about if the national debt gets to the point where the interest is so high the nation will default: when it reaches that critical point (we're almost there) the government will print huge amounts of money. What you've been saving all your life will become worth a lot less.

What is so ludicrous about the way this particular article (above) is reported is that they make the Republicans who are cutting into the bad guys. Aren't they terrible, those mean Republicans? Frankly, I don't think they're cutting enough. They need to cut a whole lot more, and hopefully, if they succeed, they will save all our hides. We can't afford the Democrats. No more than a person making 50,000 a year can afford three brand new Mercedes and a $400,000 home, with no money in the bank. The bills of all the feckless Democrat promises (and some of the squishy long-term Republicans) over the years are coming due. Get ready for cuts. They're coming. If they don't, it's going to get a whole lot worse.

When Government Does Too Much, It Doesn't Do a Very Good Job

When government has too much to do, it doesn't do a very good job. You see, things get prioritized, and some things will always fall to the bottom of the list. If there is no incentive to make things better, things won't get done. Does that make sense? It happens in our homes. Some tasks fall to the bottom of the list and we don't feel like doing them. In an organization, have you ever wanted to get something done, and gave up because there were too many roadblocks? Did you find the people saying, "This place could be so much better if they only did . . . . "this."? Sometimes when we ask the right people we find out that things can easily get done, but in some instances, too much bureaucratic red tape, and in some cases silly laws and regulations prevent good things from getting done.

Incentive is a wonderful thing. When you had to do your chores as a child, did you get on them right away, or did you leave them for your mother or father to do? What if your mother and father told you, that it was your job? Sure it may have been your job, but what if they gave you incentive to do that job better?

From private companies to government, incentive works. The pursuit of happiness in this country is based on freedom. When you pay fewer taxes you are freer. If I am forced to pay for a public park or services that I do not know I am funding, I may or may not use them. If nobody cares, that place might languish. The people who do want it to be a nice place, a safe place for themselves and their children will suffer because government is getting in the way of making it better. Sometimes things just need to get done. A field full of trash will remain a field full of trash when everyone pays taxes on the field, but no one really cares whether there is trash there or not. What if there were an incentive to clean it up, to make it better, to make it a place that people could use for activities? Why not? What if they sold things there? What if they rented out space for organizations to use on particular days of the year, then used the funds to improve the site? When the right owner or worker gets behind something, then it will succeed and prosper.

Democrats always want you to think that they're the party of the little man, the party of the worker. As I look at the way they vote and exercise authority, I don't get that impression. I believe that the Democrat party only wants to maintain control over all of us, to have power at all costs.

Shouldn't all our candidates want to do what's best for us? Shouldn't they? Shouldn't the people's voice count? When did the people's voice truly count in the Obamacare debate? Obamacare was rammed down the people's throats, even when there was vocal opposition to it on both sides. Didn't really matter to Democrats though.

So this past week we received all these flyers in the mail at home. One of them was for the Libertarian candidate, saying that this was the true conservative in the race. Who sent the flyer out? The Democrat party. This tells me that they only want to win at any cost. It's about strategy and siphoning away conservative votes to a Libertarian candidate so that the Democrat wins.

As a voter, that makes me kind of mad. Democrats don't really want whats best for you. They want to maintain control over you at any cost. Conservatives, if you want Liberals to run the country and keep screwing it up, just vote Libertarian. Yes, if you want your vote to not count at all, go ahead and vote Libertarian. But, if you want to defeat every Democrat, vote for someone who can win, and that would be the Republican. A vote for a Libertarian is a vote for a Democrat.

Libertarians, if you don't like the Republican candidates, get your candidate into the primaries as a REPUBLICAN and if they're the best candidate, they'll win. But this year, please vote Republican. Why get up early or stand in line late if you're going to vote Libertarian? Your candidate already lost prior to election day. What a waste. That's my two cents.

Make it So They Don't Have to Step Down and Retire

If You Haven't Figured it Out by Now, NPR is RED Radio

I used to listen to NPR, almost every day a number of years back, and sometimes I found that there were some interesting and informative programs on the station. Car Talk, Science Friday, their discussions with artists and entertainers (but not all of them) were sometimes interesting (what's the show with Terri Gross? "As it Happens"?) I began listening to NPR as I moved to the area where I currently live, but after I had been listening, September 11, 2001 changed the country I live in. As I continued to listen to NPR, I myself felt that George W. Bush was taking strong steps to defend our country and prevent attacks from happening again, but I often found them attacking the President. I did not even vote for George W. Bush. I was politically uninvolved and apathetic to American politics.

NPR's strong bias against Bush, Republicans-conservatives-as I would come to know them really did not sit well with me. It turned me off. And soon, I discovered that there was an alternative: talk radio.

I discovered Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved, Hugh Hewitt, Bill Bennett, Laura Ingraham, and others, and found their programming a whole lot more interesting than anything I had previously heard on NPR.

I have made up my own name for NPR. I call it, "Red Radio." This is not anything I learned from any of the aforementioned talk show hosts; it's just that NPR is living in a world that doesn't really exist. A world where everyone should get along if they would just talk to one another and think like "progressives:" I believe that there are many amazing things to see in the world, but it can also be a very dangerous place. They believe in a world where there is no evil (only freedom fighters-against capitalist and colonialist tyrants that is), where anyone who thinks there actually is evil in the world is a bigot, where political correctness dictates how we should live our lives, instead of people just thinking for themselves and doing what's right, where racism is alive and well, where America is inherently unfair to them.

It is a network based on a naive and foolish political correctness, and misguided assumptions about "races."
To me, there are no races, but one: the human race. Our color depends only on the amount of melanin in our skin, and that seems like a pretty superficial distinction to make for me. They live in a world of limited opportunity: I live in a world where there is unlimited opportunity as long as the government and the Democrats don't suck the life out of the economy and the opportunities available, and take away our freedom by sucking up all our income with confiscatory taxation.

Finally, I also want government to spend more time minding its own business, instead of everyone else's, and that is where NPR and I have to part ways. I still like the Car Talk guys though.

Life Without the Bush-Era Tax Cuts

Many people think that taxes are a good thing; after, all who would pay for roads and basic services like water treatment, garbage collection, etc? However, the fewer taxes we have, the more freedom we have.

We have more leisure time than we ever did. Families worked throughout the day on family farms to make sure they had enough food to put on the table. The family farm is pretty much gone. Private companies are running farms and making it so that you don't have to work the hours and hours that it would have taken to put that food on your table.

However, government seems to think that its job is to provide insurance for you, put food on people's tables, educate you-to give you cradle to grave services. It's getting to be almost like the Matrix: we are the batteries for an enormous machine, and we can be flushed at any moment.

Government has gotten far too big and cumbersome. Those who have instituted Obamacare have created a monster that cannot be paid for. For all these government "services" for which we are the batteries, we are learning that this kind of spending and debt is unsustainable.

Democrats will run on things like, "That guy will take your social security away." Here's what's going to happen: if we don't cut costs, rather than making reforms to social security, medicare, slashing and cutting in all of government there is not going to be social security. It's all going to crash, and the current administration and Congress-all in the hands of Democrats right now, are taking it to that state.

Seeing that Democrats are letting the Bush tax cuts "sunset" which is their euphemism for-you're not going to get the tax cuts anymore-you are going to be paying MORE taxes. In the meantime, it is going to take you longer next year to get to the point where you have income above the amount of taxes that you are paying. In other words, look forward to more of your money being wasted by our bloated government, because they can't control themselves.

This year the Democrats in Congress have overreached terribly, stepping over the wishes of the people.

Who can blame them? They were overwhelmingly elected in 2008. Yes, there was a malaise in 2008. People quit paying attention. The candidate Obama was more moderate in the way he presented himself than how he's behaved in office.

These people are about dismantling America. Cutting America down to size. They believe in big government. They believe that it's OK to continue to tax and spend, even though they are really spending YOUR money. They voted in a healthcare bill that most people really haven't read, passing it so they "could see what was in it."

Are you mad enough yet? The way we take action in our country is to vote politicians out of office so that they get the message. Voting for a 3rd party candidate to express your displeasure does not cut it. A vote for a third party is usually really a vote for a Democrat. Democrats always vote for their own. They are activists through and through.

Those of us who prefer to mind our own business and haven't really cared for politics in the past are finding that our ways of life are being seriously infringed upon. You see, the people who were elected in 2008 voted for a healthcare bill that is more about population control and socializing medicine than actually keeping our healthcare system the BEST in the world, which it presently is, unless Obamacare isn't defunded, repealed.

That means Democrats have to pay at the polls this year. Every Democrat at every level must be defeated. Local politicians must pay a price too. They must begin to realize that the people they support on the national level don't seem to have the best interests of America in mind. The way that they pay that price is by being voted out of office by everyone at the grassroots level. That is the only way these people will learn that they have made big mistakes in governing our nation. You must pay attention to what these people are doing, and you must call them on it. Even if you don't like Republicans, you must vote for them, because they are the only ones that are going to put the brakes on the insane spending. And should your regional candidate screw up, you need to then make sure that the best candidates win in the primaries and defeat them.

This is what I urge you to do. Sign the Winning in November pledge, and FOLLOW THROUGH with it. E-mail or talk to ten OR MORE of your friends and urge them to vote against every Democrat they can, to make sure that every Democrat defeated loses so hopelessly that a recount isn't even a possibility. Because if they get thumped badly enough, they can't cheat. And if YOU do nothing, you have nothing to complain about because you COULD HAVE. Thanks for listening. It's time to get busy!

He OR She Will Be the Next President

It's been awhile since I've posted, but here is an article written shortly after my last post, from the American Thinker, called "Another Failed Presidency"

It's hard to believe that this was written in August, only a few months after this presidency began. What's crazy is, considering the Olympic debacle, foreign policy at the United Nations and vs. Iran, (no doubt you can think of other events), the train wreck keeps piling up.

Some words on each of these events:
Last week Obama flew off to Copenhagen to see if he could get the Olympics for Chicago.

Not only was the cost of the trip enormously expensive, but the worst thing about this is there are hugely greater concerns for the US right now, namely, Iran's nuclear ambitions.

At the United Nations, Obama apologized for our nation once again (unnecessary, as we're mostly unapologetic). Anyone who doesn't realize that every nation looks out for its own interests is a fool, and Obama should be looking out for this nation's interest. He's not.

You'll notice that many (including the one who wrote the article above) were convinced that Obama must have had the Olympics in the bag already to make the ill-advised flight to Copenhagen.

But HE DIDN'T GET THEM! He thought that his own love of self would be dazzling enough to get the Olympic committee to forget the years of efforts by other nations to get the Olympics.

I'd say that his trip was not much better than the ambulance driver with a critical patient going two miles out of the way and going through the drive through for a burger before going to the hospital. And then forgetting the sack at the drive-through!

The Olympic debacle wasn't the main issue though: he's got bigger fish to fry than the Olympics. Forget that the Olympics are like an economic black hole for anyone who gets them; we're better off without them.

Iran will go nuclear, and if they are on track to have weapons during the Obama presidency, they will have them-and likely use them-before Obama lifts a finger to stop them.

Have I mentioned that he wants to reduce our nuclear stockpile? Here's a hint: nuclear stockpiles are not actually for bombing nations into oblivion. They're a deterrent. (If you are a thug, are you going to bother the fellow with a machine gun, or without a machine gun?)

And don't forget how his talk at the United Nations was an abysmal failure. Even Libya's Kadafi, (spell it any way you want) knows he can stroke Obama's ego in safety; he need not cower as he did in the days of George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan. The American electorate replaced the lion with a housecat last year.

Did I hear Obama say that people were fleeing the islands due to climate change? What?! That's one of the most outlandish lines I've heard in years. What planet is he living on? Are we on the same one?

And, having forfeited foreign policy all the Democrats have forgotten that if you fail abysmally in that arena, you'd better think about the economy, because that is the only thing that can save you electorally.

Here's a strategy hint for anyone who wants to run against B.O.

Correct these outrageously simple mistakes:
Economically: Focus on cutting government spending and reducing taxes.
Foreign policy: Always look out for America's interests, and definitely, "Drill baby, drill."

But by all means, do one more crucially important thing, and here's my prediction for the one who does it. My prediction is that if you can find a candidate to run against Barack Obama who has a positive, hopeful vision of America, who can connect with the American people on that, someone who articulates his love for America time and time again, he OR she will be the next American president.

One more thing: the candidate also needs to be dismissive of the media. Always remember Reagan's line when these buffoons start caterwauling: "There he goes again."

I think many of us are tired of being brow-beaten about the environment (it's not the crisis they make it out to be), tired of our government constantly meddling in our lives, while not paying attention to the dangerous world around us.

In the meantime, there's one thing Obama could do to save his presidency. Make a 180 on his view of America. Believe me. It won't happen. You can't stop the momentum of an ego that big, and it's headed for the iceberg. -Cal Samuel August

Fiscally Irresponsible Congress and States: Stop Spending Money You Don't Have!

There's one positive thing I can think of in all of this push for health care reform and cap and trade nonsense. I think it won't last long, because I don't think the government is going to have the money to do it. Well, let me put it this way: the people won't have the money to do it, which means the government won't either, and when the government starts printing all the money to make it happen, I think the voters are going to put the kibosh on them as they feel the effects of overwhelming inflation.

Already, voting people are expressing strong disapproval. Certainly Democrats have claimed mandates right and left: as quoted in the "Patriot Post" July 1, 2009, Vol. 9 #26, Nancy Pelosi said on Cap and Trade . . . . "We passed transformational legislation, which will take us into the future. For some it was a very difficult vote because the entrenched agents of the status quo were out there full force, jamming the lines in their districts and here, and they withstood that." --House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Wow, is she abrasive! Conceited too. They "withstood" the voice of the people to their own electoral peril. She ought to learn that just because one is elected, doesn't mean that electoral retribution can't be swift in the years to come. Numbers are quite low for Democrats-I say Democrats because they run Congress now-and they're not listening. Only 18% in a Rasmussen poll (as of June 29, 2009) felt that Congress was doing a good job, while 47% think that congress is doing a POOR job.

Eek. Dare I say a trip to the woodshed in 2010 for Congressional Democrats? I can hope to high heaven so, because Nancy Pelosi doesn't belong anywhere near any kind of leadership in our government. She's making a disastrous mess of things right now. To borrow from terms Democrats use against our own patriots in wartime, this is a spending QUAGMIRE. In the meantime, Obama will be happy it seems to sign just about anything thrown his way as long as it adds to his power and comes from those Lunacrats in charge.

But, if you like government bureaucrats running just about everything, you'd better take several more looks at what you're getting into, and quit being so ignorant. Several states right now running deficits don't have the money to pay all those government bureaucrats.

That's right. Good luck getting paid when you get that cushy government job. You see, government doesn't produce anything. Right now, all certain state governments can afford are IOU's. Go ahead, I'm sure your favorite restaurants will accept IOU's too. Honestly, I don't feel particularly sorry that all the people looking for the public sector to take over everything are finding out that the public sector can't pay them.

And California is one of them! Why on earth does anyone think Nancy Pelosi running the House is a good idea when her own state can't even figure out how to get its own spending under control? When her own state can't even pay its own employees, and the horrible mess the state government has made is the farthest thing from her mind? She should be outraged. But she's not. She's cut from the same cloth. These people are so short-sighted and irresponsible, and yes, conceited. It's a little thing called the "the law of unintended consequences" that is coming home to roost.

One lesson you should learn here is that Marxism/Socialism don't work! They never have, and they never will! You can have all the high-minded, utopian, la-dee-da ideas that you want, but in the end, they have to be practical and affordable at the very least, and ideally, WORK, yes, actually benefit people. But of course, when the Marxists get all their stupid ideas in, they ALWAYS try to find ways to cheat their own system.

So, considering all this, I'm not sure public health care or cap and trade can last very long on the national level, even if they are instituted. Now that the Soviet Union has fallen, the new Barack-iet Union being instituted here won't take long to fall, because the government has already spent all the money. They don't have any! The economy will be so hamstrung, that the people who voted for "Hope" and "Change" will already be looking for real Hope and Change in 2010 and 2012. And that will be a positive thing.

If all the garbage gets instituted by our Congressional wiseacres, please let my predictions be so!

Today may be the day that "Cap and Trade" is voted upon. Cap and Trade will greatly increase energy costs-especially for those in states like Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania that depend upon coal electricity.

This of course, will supposedly produce more tax revenue for congress. However, it will greatly hit poorer families, families with members already out of work. Folks, you need to pay attention to these people. You need to be letting them know that they will pay for their stupidity. We need to promise them that they will never ever get re-elected if they continue in their foolishness, because we know they can't be trusted on a host of things, such as:

the economy
healthcare
national security
truly standing up for the civil liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights

They either have no idea what they're doing to all of us, or believe that "mother knows best." It's time for us to get these busybodies out of our lives. "Throw the bums out . . ." said David Limbaugh in a recent article. He's right! Every darn one of 'em.

A few years ago, after George W. Bush was re-elected, Republican members of congress still had a majority, and needed to pass legislation. I remember Democrat politicians saying about the majorities for Republicans that they did not have a mandate. I didn't believe them of course, but we must send our own message to Democrats, which is: "Folks, you have no mandate either."

In the meantime, Rush Limbaugh (David's brother) reported yesterday that people in congress will be exempted from public healthcare, allowed to keep their present plans. We need to tell these people, "Oh no you don't. If you're going to make us take this medicine, you're going to have to live under the same terrible health care."

I see this on bumper stickers all the time: "Enough is enough. Vote Democrat." When you vote for more of the same, that's exactly what you get. Learn a lesson folks: don't ever put Democrats in charge: they'll take everything, and the shirt off your backs.

Our Government and Media: Corrupt, Inept, and Negligent

There is so much that is intolerable about our US government. Politicians have been in office for years and years and years, and yet they get re-elected time and time again.

Congress has passed enormous spending increases, which will put us trillions of dollars in debt in the future. These current politicians must be held accountable. Government health care is now in the works.

ABC will be airing this evening apparently, a government health care commercial for Barack Obama. Our President now has the chance to shove government health care down our throats for four hours, without opposing commercials.

When the media refuses to allow an opposing view to one party's message, this is media corruption. It is also negligent: negligent because the media is failing to do its job of making clear the pros and cons of the important issues, instead promoting an extremely one-sided view.
It tells other nations that look to our example of freedom that the books are cooked. We can't depend on the US media to be halfway objective.

In the meantime, our government is inept. The way to balance a budget and get things back in order is to cut spending, period. Instead our government has increased spending tremendously. Democrats own it. Make no mistake. On the other hand, Republicans seem inept too, because we can't hear them clearly speaking against it. Or is that the media's fault, for not allowing their voices to be heard?

But back to the budget, when you run out of money, and you're maxed out, you have to cut extravagant things, sometimes not so extravagant things, eliminate wasteful spending, destroy credit cards, and pay down your debt. The government just taxes more. They do this, because you don't vote them out of office. They know they can always get away with it.

So, trillions of dollars later in the hole, government health-care is being shoved down our throats. The inept, inefficient government filled with lifelong politicians who have screwed up their own lives, now want to screw up yours too, by taking over your health-care.

It's time to say "No." We must make it resoundingly clear. "Down with government health care!" And if the politicians refuse to hear the millions of resounding voices, we must vote all of them out of office, and clean up the mess.

Watch these people. They're going to say a lot of things to get out of the hot water. Don't believe what they say. Test what comes out of their mouths, by checking it with the facts. Some people it seems can make an entire career out of lying. That's how such terrible "public-servants" get re-elected year after year. These people must realize that their job is to serve the public. To honor the people.

Liberty is Our True Legacy

While Democrats always seem to be in favor of equality, and "fairness", these two things are not the true legacy of the United States. "Equality" is not truly fair. "Equality"puts concrete boots on those born with wings. Liberty is the only thing that can allow the common man to live up to his potential, regardless of birth. Liberty is what has made our nation a "City on a Hill."

In the year that the Berlin Wall came down, I witnessed with great excitement an event that was decades in the making. I also witnessed the fall of the Soviet Union. Though the creeping shadow of socialism and communism always find their way into the free world, only liberty can resist and strike down tyranny. Fearlessness in the face of terror and oppression make our country the best place to come to in the world.

Things have gotten a bit cushy here though. We long for comfort sometimes over freedom. Freedom can be uncomfortable. Sometimes freedom means standing up as a lone voice, going places one wishes not to go, suffering under oppressive acts no one wishes to suffer under.

The people of Iran live in tyranny. Our current president for all his talk of "hope" and "change" seems to lack a bit in the courage department. He should be speaking out on the side of the people of Iran. After all, it is "the people" in our nation who elected him president. Or was it the government machine, placing him up to be the "people's" tyrant, a man who has become our arrogant and "enlightened" despot? I don't fully believe that last sentence, but his lack of courage in the face of Iran's tyranny really makes me wonder. His shoving of government healthcare down our throats, his failure to truly stand up for those oppressed by the heavy hand of taxes and unruly and unyielding government, most significantly, his failure to stand up for the unborn, and yes, even his failure to stand up for the rights of even those who speak out against him, and more, all gravely disappoint me; these things should also gravely disappoint you.

Mr. President, now is your time to stand up for the people of Iran and those all over the Middle East. This is your "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall!" moment. If you do not stand with the people, your lack of courage and "unwillingness to meddle" will make you one of history's greatest "fence-sitters", rather than one of history's greatest presidents. Now is your moment. We are the "City on the Hill" not the "City that is Still." Tyranny is always marching; only liberty can stand against it.

Why Don't You Retire Letterman?

Comedy is a genre where there is a lot that is fair game which is not so in other venues. However, it is my opinion that it is absolutely despicable to go after the children of politicians, or even of people who have become infamous through publicity for that matter.

Enter David Letterman. Letterman has made the utterly poor choice of making sexual jokes about the children of Sarah Palin. Here's the thing. It doesn't matter whether she's a Republican; it doesn't matter if she was a Democrat, Libertarian, whatever. It's despicable.

One can criticize Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, former President Bush (W), or Dick Cheney-the politician's themselves-but going after the children or grandchildren in jokes or commentary is not only bad taste and poor judgment, it should be completely out of bounds. It's not funny or cool.

I will grant that one can criticize the publicly spoken views of a child, but just the views; it's still out of bounds to make it personal though. If a "child" is no longer a child, that is, above 18, and has purposely put herself in the public eye, then criticism, even jokes are allowable. Still, there is a responsibility to be at least a little noble when you make a joke. Some jokes are hits "below the belt." Certain jokes don't belong in public commentary, especially when indecent. Just because the FCC allows you to say it, doesn't mean that you necessarily should. There's much more constructive material that can be added to the public commentary.

So, in order not to ramble on, we'll close with this. Mr. Letterman, you'd do well to retire. We don't need your negativity, your poor taste, or your tired old bits. Apparently the "news" is watching, if nobody else. And too bad for you, Joe Biden's late night comedy ratings are higher than yours. Oh wait, maybe that's not funny.

Addendum: 6/16 Apparently Letterman made a point of saying that he was joking about Bristol Palin and not about Willow, the younger daughter, who was actually at the ballgame (as if, of course, that was a lot better). However, Letterman has now apologized, and Sarah Palin has accepted the apology.

Be Your Own "Great Communicator"

A new Ronald Reagan statue was recently unveiled in the Capitol Rotunda. It is ironic that this statue, a tribute to Reagan's legacy is being unveiled in the era of the biggest big-government spending spree ever. The statue is seven feet tall.

While Democrats work so hard to destroy the nation we know and love with what appears to be complete mainstream-media complicity, we realize that it is exactly a person with the demeanor, spirit, and values of a Ronald Reagan that needs to step from the shadows and on to the national stage. In the meantime, Democrats would love to claim the Gipper's popularity as their own, all the while pushing on us everything diametrically opposed to his legacy.

While we lament the lack of a Reagan in the present time, we must remember that it is not government that runs our lives. If we allow government to steal our joy, smack down our spirit, and trample our values, the Democrats and their allies have won.

They do not want you making your own choices, running your own businesses, living the freest lives possible. They would prefer that you be attached to government as if you were attached to the Matrix, devoid of real muscle of your own, all the while being a disposable human battery in the tax machine of the federal government. (Watch "The Matrix" if that last analogy causes you to scratch your head.)

No matter what government does, you must personally embody the values of Reagan, carrying them as your standard. You must know your Constitution, knowing that when courts tell you that you cannot exercise your religious values freely, they are tramping upon your First Amendment Rights, which are not freedom FROM religion, which are not "separation of church and state" but the ability to exercise your faith freely, in public and in private: to speak against the ills of abortion freely, to defend traditional marriage freely, to hold your head high as a person of faith. Politicians are not gods, nor should we make them into idols. We must do what is right ourselves, and hold politicians accountable to our own standards and not accepting their own misguided directives.

As I think of Ronald Reagan's legacy, I love that pieces of the Berlin Wall can be found in that statue, a remember of his stand against Communism in a dark time. Don't forget that Wall, nor the power of tyranny. Big government can always become a rule of despots, tyrants, and dictators. They can't if you don't let them, and you must not allow the "state" to have the last word. You must teach the value of freedom, the dangers of big-government, the value of capitalism, the lessons of history, and the importance of faith to your own children. You must be their "Great Communicator" because otherwise the government machine will have its own say in your children's lives more than you will. The reality is, not hardly. Even if one estimates there were 6 million Muslims in the country, it would have the 34^th largest number of Muslims. Again though, the reality is hardly that.

Looking at some figures, one quickly sees that all Christianity in the US greatly outpaces the number of Muslims. However, if we scroll down (Stats for US Religions) and look at the 10 largest religious bodies in the United States, and divide them up by the numbers, there are around:

66.4 million Roman Catholics

16.4 million Southern Baptists

8.2 million United Methodists

5 million ELCA Lutherans

4.5 million of the Church of God

3.6 million Presbyterians

3.5 million of the National Baptist Convention

2.7 million of the Assembly of God

2.5 million LCMS Lutherans

In 2004, 39 million people claimed to be secularists, while 224.5 million claimed to be Christian.

So are we to call the US a “Muslim” nation then? Before we jump the gun, we could call it a Roman Catholic, Southern Baptist, United Methodist, Lutheran, etc. or simply Christian, secular, or even a Jewish nation before we ever got around to calling it “Muslim.”

We know that when Obama suggested that the US could be one of the largest Muslim nations in the world he was really just pandering. That’s all there is to it. His speeches and pronouncements are all clichés and platitudes and in most cases do not examine the issues in a truly substantive and useful way. Welcome to the Mediocre Society, the Milquetoast Society, the Lukewarm Society. That is the America of Obama’s “Hope” and “Change.” Say goodbye for the time being to American exceptionalism. To the rest of us who didn’t vote for it, and are starting to not recognize the America we’ve always known and loved it is the era of “Broke” and “Strange” not “Hope” and “Change.”

A final note:

A common misconception is that the Constitution promotes “separation of church and state.” It does no such thing.

The article I link to above, says that “separation of church and state” is derived from the Constitution, from the 1^st amendment. While one might claim that that idea is derived from the Constitution, more specifically, the first Amendment as found in the Bill of Rights says,

A Great Distaste for our Leftist Media, and What Responsibility IS

When it comes to political matters, our leftist media is completely partisan and greatly irresponsible, neglecting important news, and often reporting in a way which only favors its view.

A recent article headline trumpeted the news that the GOP is wincing as Dick Cheney seizes the spotlight. I think it is safe to say that many, many conservatives and other Americans disagree entirely with this premise. This was the headline in an article from the Washington Post, found online from MSNBC news.

Call me a partisan hack if you wish, but I never claim objectivity. The media generally WOULD.
You can decide, but the following article is slanted greatly with the opinions of the writer negatively stacked against Dick Cheney.

In fact, believing that the GOP offers the best alternative to extreme liberal policies of the current Democrats controlling congress and the White House, the leftist media should realize that there are many, many Americans who believe historical perspective of the 9/11 situation and its aftermath, warranted the idea that it IS necessary sometimes to take somewhat more extreme measures to get the information needed to protect Americans. The Constitution is not a suicide pact. However, we also have to admit that the "Constitution" is often used as a cover for liberals when it is convenient, so that they can take absurd positions: for example, considering our intelligence and military officials to be the enemy, and treating them as the real enemy, all the while offering aid and comfort to our true enemies abroad who mean us great harm.

If "waterboarding" of a high profile terrorist is what it takes to gain the intelligence needed to save 100,000 to 1,000,000 people, or even just 50 people, I think any patriot would choose the "waterboarding" even if it required "ceding" the "higher" moral ground. If you want to argue how "terrible" this viewpoint is, go ahead, but to many, many, people, Dick Cheney is a hero and a patriot. When it comes to the irresponsibility and misreporting of the liberal media, let it be said, many Americans don't have a lot of use for you, and that's why we're not buying your papers or watching the news. It's a gross waste of time.

The leftist definition of Cheney's supposed "crimes against humanity" are highly questionable to the conservative mind, which brings us to another question:

Since it is pretty obvious that Nancy Pelosi-she's a Democrat by the way-aided and abetted intelligence officials as they carried out interrogations, by NOT speaking out against them even when she knew, is she A) a hero, or B) a complete liar. Here's my opinion: had Nancy Pelosi admitted that she knew about the interrogations, rather than denying it, and supported Dick Cheney, in spite of her opposite party affiliation, she would in my mind rightly be called a hero, and I would give her credit for this view. When it comes to this issue, if Joe Lieberman were in the same position as Pelosi now, I have an inkling that he would probably do just that. Pelosi probably took the right course of action in letting the administration do what was needed to ensure the nation's safety, but lying about it is inexcusable. Her lack of responsibility for her actions is truly cowardly.

Since Pelosi denied that she knew and has been willing to let Democrats go after Cheney and other officials, letting them take the fall, we can only be outraged at Pelosi, one of the Democrat Party's highest officials by the way. This is a woman who can't admit a mistake, or stand up if she believes that her course of action is correct. This is bad leadership. If she fully admits to her mistake, fine, but we don't want to hear from her ever again about the Republican Party's "culture of corruption." For we know, it's just the opposite these days isn't it?

From failure to pay taxes, campaign fraud (it's called Acorn), to a host of other ills, the Democrat Party's foundation is a true "culture of corruption." The leftist mainstream media consistently fail to report the extent of this corruption. We can't insist that all politicians are corrupt in some way, therefore excusing our own party preferences. The Republicans have been purged of some bad apples in recent years, it's time to do a whole lot of purging on the Democrat side now.

Something like $8 billion is going to be given to ACORN, even while it has been accused of voter fraud in several states. We must have fair and free elections. ACORN MUST be stripped of its funds. They are taking money out of taxpayer pockets to fund this travesty of justice. Please share the importance of this with your elected representatives. Blog about it. Make a lot of noise. Hold them accountable. That's how we protect and preserve our great Republic.

Hillarycare: Resurrection! Real life, Romance Movie, or Horror Flick?

Nope. It's not a movie. Back in the 90s Hillary Clinton's shot at "reforming" health care went down in flames. Thank goodness! Americans didn't want socialized medicine. Well, socialized medicine was never out of vogue with Democrats, they just knew it wasn't popular at the time, so they dropped it.

Well, it's back on the table. Not that we really want it. At least those of us who know what it's really all about. American medicine is among the best in the world, if not THE best in the world. You probably didn't get that if you watched Michael Moore's "Sicko."

I'm not a doctor. Being a consumer, and sometimes in the patient's seat, I try to be informed and sort it all out. Here's my take.

The top reasons why we have the best healthcare in the world ALREADY:

1. We get the best drugs first, because we are putting the money into research and development.

2. We get the best doctors, especially WHEN (and because) we make it rewarding and worthwhile to be a doctor. The reward is both financial and personal. (More on this coming).

3. We have the best medical facilities because our nation has the wealth and capital to fund them. If it weren't for capitalism, these wouldn't exist. Companies exist because they can make profits.

Why does medicine cost so darn much?
1. Government regulation is one of the reasons. There are some good regulations certainly, but too much micromanagement can be a serious problem.

2. Another problem is the cost of defending lawsuits in malpractice suits. Some lawsuits do have their place, especially in the case of gross negligence, but there are many, many other cases, where those in the legal profession greatly abuse the legal system for financial gain. Let's face it: doctors have deep pockets. They have to pay out a huge part of what they make not only in confiscatory taxes from the government (as they make so much), but they also have to pay out confiscatory rates for malpractice insurance.

3. One opinion I have heard from people who have been patients: sometimes those with the better insurance stay much longer and get more tests because it is more lucrative to keep them.
In other words, the insurance is paying, so some hospitals may run up the bill that way. I have a feeling that government would err in thinking that this is the biggest reason why healthcare costs so much. My own opinion is that abuses are certainly possible, but I think the other reasons have more to do with it.

Why socialized medicine is a horrible idea!

Think socialized medicine is a great idea? Think again.
1. Forget choice. When you get sick, a government bureaucrat is going to be deciding when, where, and what treatments you will get. These people can hardly manage the problems in their own lives. It should horrify you to think that they want to have control over your life!

2. Price controls are a lousy idea too. When government meddles with price controls, taking out the profit motive, they will ensure that fewer people want to go into the medical profession, and that companies fueled by profit-making drugs will go out of business. Forget life-saving technological advances and important R and D.

3. Only seniors with a death-wish would want socialized medicine. If you're a senior who think voting for whoever will bring you socialized medicine is a panacea-a cure-all-you're out of your mind. When Democrats talk about cutting costs hugely in medicine (come on, it's government talking, and they're probably lying to you about cutting costs anyway), there's a major way it will be done. The greatest costs come in caring for seniors, because they are the ones with the most health problems. Also on that list are the disabled . . . . Who do you think will be denied care when costs "get too high?" If you're a senior, this is one social experiment you DO NOT WANT.

What are reasonable steps that can be taken to drive down costs in healthcare while maintaining American exceptionalism in medicine?

1. Government is crazy in thinking that they can drive down costs with socialized medicine. This is all about POWER and CONTROL over you. Government has a way of doing things bigger, dumber, slower, and costlier. To them, health care is the new "opiate of the masses." Government regulation also creates a lot more headaches for doctors.

2. SERIOUS tort reform. Unscrupulous lawyers should not be able to make a career out of ruining the careers of conscientious doctors. Accidents can and do happen, and doctors will not take the necessary risks in treatments if they know a legal summoning is going to be hanging over their heads. Legal fears also drive up costs as doctors call for more and more tests in diagnoses to cover themselves.

We also need to make it rewarding to go into the medical profession again. Doctors deserve serious financial rewards for their work. We want being a doctor to be lucrative and prestigious. If it wasn't, the brightest and the best would choose law or another profession instead. Law has its place, but we want to keep those who want to be doctors in the medical profession. We also want to drive out the headaches of dealing with excessive government regulation.

Driving down malpractice insurance costs and capping the rewards in accidental injury suits will greatly reduce costs in medical care.

3. Let R and D do its thing in drug companies. Cap lawsuits there too. Make it absolutely clear that experimental lifesaving drugs are experimental.

Message to Colin Powell: Switch Parties

Colin Powell, if he still considers himself a Republican, would do the party a favor by switching to the Democrat side of things as Arlen Specter has.

Since Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama, he obviously believes what Obama is doing and plans to do right?

Consider this: lefties are allowed all the leeway to say whatever they want about anything, whether harrassing, bullying, and destroying the reputations of beauty pageant contestants, and saying the most blatantly bigoted comments against those who hold conservative views, branding them as racists and any number of blatantly defamatory things. When they get into office, they brand every alternative view as "hate speech."

Among the left's enemies are people like Rush Limbaugh. Why is Powell going after him?
If moderates look at conservative policies and agree with them, they'll vote conservative. But, if our country really is left-of-center instead of right-of-center, then they'll vote for Democrats.

Republicans have to offer solid ideas and a real alternative. Rush's ideas are a real alternative to what we hear in the mainstream media. Conservatives would like to see the same of Republicans. We want to see a real alternative and a clear message versus what Democrats offer. We don't want to be part of the "collective."

The country has always had a two party system, and if Colin Powell feels that people that appreciate Rush's ideas (of whom many are Republican) are setting back the country, he belongs in a different party.

Republicans need a strong coalition to move forward, but conservatism is greatly needed in the Republican party, not a go-along-with-the-flow, RINO republicanism.

Powell can say whatever he wants, but so can Rush. It's called "freedom of speech." Mr. Powell's certainly earned it, but if he is going to tell conservatives that it is people like Rush who are setting back the party, conservatives won't be hearing it. He needs to be a Republican if he is one, or join a party where the shoe fits. That's my opinion.

Specter is concerned he can’t win his own Republican primary on its way, so we’ll be watching for his defeat in the Democrat primary. Trickle Down Taxes

I remember hearing a phrase when I was a kid in the 80's "Trickle-Down Economics." That term was used in a negative way to describe how giving tax cuts really benefited the wealthy the most, and in the end the effect was that workers and the poor received little or no benefit.

In the current climate, I believe that what we have are Trickle Down Taxes. Let me explain. What happens when you tax some of the wealthier individuals, or the owners of small businesses who create jobs is that instead of employing 1,000 workers, the big employers have to lay off 500 of them en masse. Smaller businesses employing ten workers have to lay off 8 of them.

Because of the present policies being put into place, and anticipation of further cost increases due to higher and higher taxes, businesses are laying off workers. The workers laid off have to then draw benefits from the government-such as in Kentucky, where certain benefits have lately been extended for out of work people. So, in essence, there will be less tax money available, because it is being drawn upon in these tough times.

Essentially the effects of the taxes have trickled down to the worker, seriously hindering his or her ability to find employment, and to save for the future becoming more prosperous and passing his or her wealth onto future generations.

In the meantime, ironically, when taxes are lowered, profits often greatly rise so much in businesses, that even at a lower tax rate, more tax money is collected! You can be a liberal sycophant if you want, and protest "Big business" but what is really harming everyone-including the liberal worker-is "Big Government." You see, Trickle Down Taxes hurt everyone.

One of the frustrating things about the global warming furor is that liberals keep shoving this stuff down our throats. And the more people who get sucked into believing it, the more we can call it what it really is: "global dumbing." Not only do I not believe that man-made global warming is happening, if you want to be a jerk and change the terminology on me to "climate change," go right ahead.

You can call just about anything climate change, and foist all kinds of ecological rules on everyone, making us all miserable. Well, a lot of us wouldn't have a problem using less gas. You know why? For one reason, it makes us less dependent on the rest of the world for it, but it also costs us less money. In fact, being less wasteful is worth it so often, just because you save money. Little old ladies have been telling us to turn the lights out when we leave the room for years. That's because the goal is to pinch pennies. It's not a bad thing. We just don't like it shoved down our throats, like the world is going to end tomorrow if I don't recycle a can.

I like the idea of putting fines on litterers and dumpers and all kinds of jerks who like making a mess of my neighborhood, and my drive to work. I just don't like extra carbon credit taxes and other nonsense shoved down my throat, and you shouldn't either.

Today's list. 5 things you can do to P.O. global warming morons and earth worshipers on THIS earth day:

5. Turn the lights off on all the liberals at work.

4. Scold them as hypocrites for driving their SUVs around.
